The founder of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), late His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan rooted the important concept to start building of nations by building a healthy society.

There is no doubt that, the United Arab Emirates, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan - President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum - UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai; and Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council of Rulers of the UAE; has made a remarkable progress in strengthening the UAE health sector.

The UAE has also spearheaded many initiatives for the benefit of the Local, Arab, Regional and World populations.

I am pleased to announce the launch of the Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award that comes as a new landmark to confirm the commitment of the UAE as a supporter of scientific innovation and the improvement of health care systems.

This division aspires to actively contribute in the advancement of scientific and medical practices by honoring local, regional and global individuals, Institutions, Universities and research centers of excellence in the important field of Thalassemia & other Hemoglobinopathies.

I would like to thank the Thalassemia International Federation for the valuable role of being a major partner for the Award.

I also would like to express my appreciation to all the members of the Boards of Trustees of the Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award.

I invite local, regional and global scientists and Institutions to actively participate in this Award to help us in achieving our goal for the good of mankind.
